Updated: Feb 24, 2018

The pedagogical contents of the SMA Negeri 3 in terms of the school's teaching method, learning materials and innovation, sources of learning and technology, and authentic assessment.

Teaching Methods

Every teacher uses a variety of teaching methods it depends on what you are teaching. In mathematics, they usually use the scientific approach and the expository method in teaching because it is very applicable to the subject – this includes discussion, problem solving, question and answer, and practice. In history, they usually used the discussion method but interactive approach – in this area the teacher usually ask question and discuss about the history. In other subject, they usually use the presentation or with the use of power points presentations, video presentations, image presentations, and others.

The teachers in SMA 3 make sure that their teaching methods always apply the student centered approach – where the students are the center of the learning process. The information must be coming from the students so that they will have a meaningful experience.

Learning Materials and Innovation

The school has a nice facility in terms of the learning materials or instructional materials and innovation. Since the school was a public senior high school or a Negeri school, the government supported the school by giving computers, textbooks, facilities, and so on. The government of Indonesia has a large amount of fund for the education of the students.

Sources of Learning and Technology

Library is their main source of references – they have textbooks, modules, encyclopedias, dictionaries, novels, and other books where they can use inside their classes. Some of the textbooks was store in the library, so when it’s time for the students to get the book they will just request a number of textbooks to be borrowed on a certain time interval during their class. The students can also buy textbooks, so that they can have their own textbook.

The school have 4 computer laboratories with 100 computers sponsored by the government and other are donated by the rich people in the city. The computer labs can be used by the students for research and other school related activities like home works, researches, and others. The laboratory also used for the Final Examination of the Grade 12 students which the test questions is already in the computer and they will just pick the best answer, then, they can get score of the exam after the time ends.

Authentic Assessment

Authentic Assessment is an assessment where the student will perform a certain task/s given by the teacher like role playing, music video, video presentation, creative presentation, creative reporting, outcome based, and etc.

In Indonesia, they also have authentic assessment. For example, in SMA 3, the students in the subject Bahasa Indonesia, their teacher ask them to shoot a film that is relevant on what they have discussed in the class – this is an example of an authentic assessment, the students perform and they can relate what they have learned inside the classroom in the real life situations.

In mathematics, there are not usually use the authentic assessment because it is hard to think of a performance task that is related to the subject and the topics in math. What the teacher did is they think of an alternative assessment that is somehow related to authentic but not performance but oral or written task that targets the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor areas of the students so that the students can also have a meaningful experience in math. The teacher makes sure that the task is contextualized or the students can relate to the problem.
